As a devoted member of the Church of Jason Pierce, the religious implications of the holiday season don’t really mean much to me. However, I am totally down with gift-giving and holly jolly ho ho ho cheer. (And the occasional Hot Toddy by the fireplace.)
So to you all out there I give you the greatest gift of all–my favorite live Spiritualized show.

I got this from a friend who trades discs, and I’ve never seen it anywhere else so I assume it’s a bit rare. It’s a rip from a radio broadcast, so the quality is superb (though there are a few DJ chats…but they’re not in English so it almost adds to the experience).
However, the greatest part of this concert is its from 1993, meaning its right between the releases of the greatest album ever created, Lazer Guided Melodies, and Pure Phase. The result? Tons of tracks from those two albums, and several long versions of old favorites. A good departure from the wealth of 1997 and beyond Spiritualized shows out there on the Web.
While I used to think it virtually impossible for any one person to have one single favorite song, the version of “Walking With Jesus” here stands out above just about any other recording I’ve ever heard. Clocking in at a solid 11 minutes, it wails and wails gloriously. Crazy horns, dude. My favorite version of my favorite song by my favorite band. Please, bury me with this track.
Shine A Light runs into Electric Mainline here, but Pierce takes this version of EM into outer space. I’m constantly impressed how these different takes on songs sound so good.
Enjoy.
Stats of the show:
Jason’s attitude – probably doped up, but sounding great
Long Song – Shine A Light/Electric Mainline (15 minutes)
Notable Exclusions – Run, If I Were With Her Now
Spacemen 3 Song: So Hot (Wash Away All of My Tears), Walking With Jesus (though I consider that a Jason song)
Version of Electric Mainline: Early, blissed-out
Spiritualized live February 5, 1992
(edit: EZArchive ain’t so easy… new process frightens, confuses me…looks like they don’t host downloadable files that are high quality.)
Listen:
Spiritualized – Sway
Spiritualized – Angel Sigh
Spiritualized – Take Good Care of It
Spiritualized – Medication
Spiritualized – Walking With Jesus
Spiritualized – Shine A Light/Electric Mainline
Spiritualized – So Hot (Wash Away All of My Tears)
Spiritualized – Smiles

If you give me your email I can do the megaupload thing. The sound quality kind of stinks, though.

The only way (other than some kind soul shareing this) is to use an app such as Audio Hi-Jack (Mac OSX)
That way you won’t get any (more) deterioration in sound quality (other than what is stated above that EZShare ‘does’ to its files (if I understand that correctly, ??? similar to You Tubes re-codecing/downsizing) to “save space”/keep a uniform quality ratio(n)
Anyway, Audio HiJack works a treat, theres no ‘Out & Back In’ recording, what’s played within the computer is what’s laid (bounced) down to digi file.
but a good alternative to iTunes (though Songbird maybe the answer soon, I hope).
You create your own settings/end codec.
and hit ‘record’ (save as n to prior)
click each file to play then chop it up in Amedeus or the exscellent (re easy and effective) Sound Studio. great app back in OS9 days. now fuss, just solid.
on qual apps for Mac audio….
iTunes NEEDS Volume Logic and SRS’s iWOW – its like buying new speakers, but DON’T use that pile of dung 3d ???? what sh1t3!
Basically a VST wrapper that bolts to iTunes (messes all sorts of things up if Vol Logic is installed or iWOW “*whom compliment each other, add this 3d thing and sounds as if your speakers are in a bucket of mud!
MacAmp X can do a far better job, it not Phoobar (u lucky PC b4st4rds
k, On 2 codec’s & Mac’s -
An app called “MAX” is a MUST have for those who like/wish to take advantage of the refreshing growth in share in ogg/ flac / flac(ogg) formats.
Especially the huge bootleg scene *see dimeadozen & purelivegigs for Spiritualized treats (as well as http://www.spiritualized.com which has 3+ very high quality shows in mp3 or flac (also a hard on the ears ‘Spitz’ gig/jam (i like Spring Hill Jack’s studio stuff but with J.S. etc … wooo, sonic scream… no boom.
Anyway why have MAX for flac’s etc?
to
a/ keep (after cd burn/dvdr back up) Harddrive storage size down by recodecing * to mp3 or ??? LostLots I mean loseless.
&
b/ to be able to play the files on the excellent iTunes that can’t play flac (ogg or otherwise)
What a pil3e of S…..ales it makes in mp3s…
So why give a cr4p about quality/amount of formats? AAC/DRM blah yawn
So Apple why the lack of codec support resulting in loss/limited quality playback?
A- ehhrm, eh, Well We can’t charge anymore for better quality”
Q/ Why not?
A/ We, obviously charge far too much now
I see, ok F*k u then n thanks for Leopard, Tiger, Panther, iLife6, 8, Logic etc etc for FREE A$$H0L35
Apple, doing it the Microsoft way… but with style. – Sheeps clothing is the fashion these days.
soapbox rant end.
btw MacAmp is still available!!!. (supports VSTs though not AUs)
I ‘found’ it at The Brian Jonestown Massacre website where they DID have the entire discog in FLAC for FREE!!! (or OGG (flac))
I read they are now no longer available since a recent release… dunno.
, I only have 3, well 4 if you count Electricity being in 2 parts.
As with MacAmp X, I have them all (except the recent release… rather have ‘Songs in A&E”
So add BJM & the Dandy Warholls, Spectrum/Sonic Boom, Spaceman 3 & S’lized and you have a nice lil’ rounded collection for those hazy golden perfect dayz to lay back in the sun and drift away… (almost managed to add a track from each artist in that sentence and 1 from the Stranglers)
well a word or lyric… hmm feeble.
wtf
oh…
o’course V.U. are required (of which I also was lucky to acquire a FLAC and mp3 version of the Norman Dolph 12″ acetate (the demo/which later, after some heavy re-arranging and something called a ‘drummer’ were added became the Andy Warhol album..
That is a true gem…
hmm I am thinking I may open an Aural-Virus vrsn2 purely for VU & SP3, Splized, Spectrumn (maybe Dandy’s n BJM but not that concerned) I have enough of the 4 to last a year including live gigs, dvd’s n vid clips
hmmm… this is far too long….. so
All this and ALL the SP3, Spectrum/Sonic Boom, Spiritualized stuff I have I’d happily share…
Especially for exchanges for ep/CDsingles rips (1 ep/cds for 5 full album requests
drop into Aural-Virus (which has NONE
of this music on it as its dedicated to a few small little known genres, Breakcore being 1 of them (tomorrows Jazz with an Amen loop and a punk fueled ethos)
The only semi link possibility is ‘aural-virus’ derived from a quote by Will. S. Burroughs – “Words are like Viruses” and his link to Spiritualized et el?
]=|===-
no prizes…..
AV pt2… I like it… I’d add Luna/Galaxy 500, Built to Spill, Pavement, the Wedding Present, Sebadoh, Swell and and…..
k I’m off to audio hi-jack these tracks….
thanks for at least making them available to listen, shame no quick click.
peace.
